We built MixboardAI because the existing tools for making mood boards are either too blank ("here's a canvas, good luck") or too constrained ("here's a fill-in-the-blanks template"). Neither matches how people actually work.
The blank canvas problem
If you've ever opened Figma or a Pinterest board to make a "vibe board," you know the feeling: the blank rectangle is the enemy. You spend ten minutes pulling images before you can even start thinking about composition. Most of what you drag in gets deleted.
AI removes this tax. Type a description, get twelve images, refine the ones that don't fit. The blank-canvas phase disappears.
Why no free tier
Most AI tools offer a free tier to get users in the door. We don't, and the reason is simple: the server cost of AI generation is real, and free users consume it without a path to revenue. The result is either (a) the free tier is worthless because limits are too tight, or (b) the company runs out of money.
Our pricing — Starter $19.9, Pro $39.9, Team $69.9 — is the lowest we can sustainably charge while still paying for the AI generation calls underneath.
In exchange:
- 7-day money-back guarantee. Pay, try it, ask for a refund if you don't like it.
- Every feature available from day one. No locked-away "enterprise" stuff. The tier you pay for only controls quota, not capability.
- No dark patterns. No "trial that auto-renews at 3× the price," no upsell popups, no email spam.
Why we chose the name
MixboardAI is named in the tradition of "we make the thing you Google." When people search "mixboard," what they mean is "a thing like that Google Labs project, but I can actually use every day." We are that thing. We're not affiliated with Google, and we don't call ourselves an alternative — we're just the tool that shows up when someone needs one.
What's next
We ship weekly. Here's what's in the current roadmap:
- Multi-Frame projects — unlock on Pro, useful for carousel posts and slide decks.
- Richer export workflows — cleaner handoff formats for client decks, social previews, and campaign planning.
- Community gallery — opt-in sharing of public boards for inspiration (no algorithmic feed, just a gallery).
Thanks for reading. If you want to see what we've built so far, grab a plan and make a board. The fastest feedback loop we can give you is: if you don't like it, we'll refund you.
